Free? Yes, Please!
I love to read. In fact, I love reading so much that I would rather a gift card to Barnes & Noble than a piece of jewelry that will sit on my dresser collecting dust. With that being said, I can easily get myself in trouble when shopping on my Nook. It's so easy to browse through the thousands and thousands of books and just click the "buy" button without paying attention to the cost.....which in turn gets me in hot water with my husband. I've learned to limit my purchases each month while still getting tons and tons of books. How can I do this on a limited budget? Free e-books baby! I love them! Barnes & Noble has free e-book Fridays where they will promote a free ebook that you can get anytime through the week. Once you have it, it is yours for as long as you want it. Sometimes though, just one free ebook a week isn't enough. Other free ebooks are available, but it can be time consuming trying to find them. If you're looking for some fantastic books to finish out the summer but don't want to spend any money, no worries because I've put together a list of my top 5 favorite ebooks that you'll be able to download and start reading immediately.
My Top 5 Free e-Books
Crime Scene at Cardwell Ranch (Harlequin Intrigue) - B.J. Daniels
I love a good cowboy story, and B.J. Daniels certainly delivers. I've reread this novel countless times.
Overview:
When some old human bones turn up on her family ranch, Dana Cardwell's life is turned upside down. Hudson Savage has returned to town as the acting marshal and he has a job to do. Old feelings resurface for both along with regretful memories of why things went wrong between them. But now that Dana's life is on the line, the will both have to forget the past in order to save the future.
Nicky Charles Werewolf series- The Mating, The Keeping and The Finding
I can read Nicky Charles Werewolf series over and over. In fact, it was this series that got me hooked on paranormal romance. Before reading this series I never understood what people saw in reading about werewolves, vampires and shape-shifters. Now I get it. I'm addicted to a good werewolf story and Nicky Charles writes some of the best. All three books in the saga are free.
Overview:
The first novel, The Mating, introduces Elise who is needed to bridge an alliance between packs. Feeling like a pawn in a game, she has no choice but to fulfill her duties once she becomes mated to the Alpha male. Twists and turns develop and you won't be able to stop reading once you begin. The Keeping, reintroduces Ryne Taylor who is set on establishing his own pack in rural Canada. Enter Melody Greene who Ryne can't help staying away from. Can she be trusted or has she stumbled upon his secret and threatens to expose them all for what they are? This novel is so suspenseful- a real page turner! The Finding culminates the saga and is a novel that builds upon plot events from the other two books with tons of betrayal, greed, innocence and love all colliding together.
Black Silk - Jan Gordon
I moved on to Black silk since I was so enthralled with paranormal fiction. I wasn't disappointed. This book is quick-paced and will leave you wanting more shape-shifter novels!
Overview:
Vic loves her pet cat and working/reading in her bookstore. Though she is single, her future looks pretty well mapped up and she is content until one night she is saved from probable danger by a mysterious stranger. Cole is a bit of a nomad, never staying one place too long and never finding a place to call home. Fate steps in and changes his future in this light romance with a paranormal twist.
Are You Positive? - Stephen Davis
This novel totally made me re-think whether we can actually trust anything our government leads us to believe.
Overview:
Ripped from the headlines of today's news, this novel is a fictitious courtroom drama in the style of John Grisham. 26 year old Tyree Johnson stands accused of first degree murder in South Carolina. He didn't kill his victim with a gun or a knife. He didn't strangle her or poison her. His murder weapon is HIV. This novel, while fiction, is also full of research and facts about the HIV/AIDS epidemic, some of which you will question long after reading this book.
eBully - David Conifer
As a high school teacher, I often see first hand the repercussions of bullying. In today's day and age it is no longer done face to face but rather through through the use of technology such as texting, and online chat rooms or social networking sites. This book gives a real eye opening look at what teens today face. A must read for parents and kids alike.
Overview:
The principal at Lakeland Middle School is desperate. There is an internet bully terrorizing one of his students. With all other resources exhausted, he finally makes a deal with a computer savvy troubled youth from a nearby detention center to go undercover at Lakeland and figure out who the bully is in return for his freedom from his current placement. With some computer sleuthing and a little bit of luck they finally expose the bully....and it's the last person they ever suspected.
